Sex Between Monkeys And Deer In Japan Is Actually A Thing!

Talk about interspecies mating!

Just some monkey business? Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, were seen mounting deers and rubbing themselves on the deers’ backs!

It was first noticed on a male macaque was caught jumping onto the back of a female sika deer to do the deed, then jumped away just to leave the poor lady cleaning the resulting mess. While interspecies sex is fairly usual, the most distant species known to do this was Antarctica fur seals mating with king penguins!

Researchers actually started recording monkey-deer liaisons in Minoo, Japan, since around 2014. They were able to record five young female monkeys doing such act for a total of 258 times in a two month period! These particular group (female adolescents) were also seen to mount each other, rub their genitals together and even stimulate themselves. Noëlle Gunst, who co-authored the study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, thinks that this might explain what's really happening.
