3D printing technology paved way to unimaginable futuristic creations, making human life ever convenient. In fact, artificial 3d printed human organs may be soon available in clinical settings. Another spectacular creation made by this technology can be seen in Madrid. A huge 3D printed footbridge is now working, building connections, both literally and figuratively.
The designers of the world's first 3D-printed pedestrian bridge are from the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC). The bridge is 40 feet and 5.7 feet wide, installed in the urban park of Castilla-La Mancha in Alcobendas, Madrid.

With the help of Enrico Dini, and his massive 3D-printing tool, the bridge is constructed out of a fused concrete powder micro-reinforced with thermoplastic polypropylene. In collaboration with a team of architects and engineers, they used the D-Shape printer for the structure.
“The computational design also allows to maximize the structural performance, being able to dispose the material only where it is needed, with total freedom of forms, maintaining the porosity thanks to the application of generative algorithms and challenging the traditional techniques of construction,” the institute said in statement

The IAAC designers may have been inspired by the organic works of Antoni Gaudi, Spain's most well-known architect. The outcome is like something you can see in the Lord of the Rings movie.
This footbridge is rather special because though it is made with sand combined into a layer of solid rock using a massive 3D printer, the bridge was created with little waste but bears great stability.
Though it has odd superficial features, the bridge is efficient and environmental-friendly. Sure is a product of today's great innovations plowed from the most creative minds.
