The human body has a bizarre way of hoarding weird objects that are debilitating to our health and freaking the shit out of us - even our doctors.
We've had a woman whose impacted tooth started growing underneath her eye
and a teenager whose ovary has brain
with skull growing inside it.
For this case, a woman named Neha Begum, 22, of northern India, has a culture of 150 live worms growing and writhing inside her stomach.
Begum was rushed in KG Nanda Hospital in January 2 after suffering from extreme abdominal pains and vomiting for more than a month.
With those two symptoms, you may think she was pregnant with a baby. But it turned out, she was growing worms inside her.
"I was shocked. This was an extremely unusual case. We have come across cases with three or four earthworms but this is the first time we have come across such a huge number," said Dr Anand Prakash Tiwari, a medic at the hospital.
She had herself checked with other physicians but they only sent her home with medications.
It would've been fatal if the worms traveled to her brain and caused serious neurological damage.
"I was in extreme pain for weeks. It was awful," Begum narrated.
"I suffered so many sleepless nights and I used to scream with the pain and vomiting. But now it’s like I have a new life. I am very thankful to the doctors here for ending my problem."
An 'unhygienic lifestyle' had allowed the worms to grow inside her body, according to Dr Tiwari.
"Basic hygiene can avoid problems like these. These worms get into the bloodstream and then grow inside the body."
