conducted by experts at Imperial College London shows that consuming a handful of nuts a day can protect us against major diseases.
The results were consistent. Experts claimed, consumption of nuts reduces the risk of heart attack by 30 percent. The findings also showed a 15 percent cut from cancer risk, as well as a diminished chance of premature death up to 22 percent.
Researchers analyzed the studies from different parts of the world, which involved 819,000 participants. The participants were a mix people with cardiovascular disease, coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
"Our results provide further evidence that nut consumption may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, cardiovascular disease, total cancer, and all-cause mortality, and possibly mortality from diabetes, respiratory disease, and infectious disease," researchers wrote in the study.
The study also conducted tests for sugar levels in the blood, and got a 40 percent drop in the risk for diabetes.
Participants in the study have eaten various types of nuts including pistachios, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, Brazil nuts and peanuts. Experts say that the positive effects of nuts to health may be due to its nutrients, which fight against cholesterol and harmful toxins in the body.
