Your boss might catch you watching cat videos at work but now, you finally have an excuse which is actually backed by science. A study published in Computers in Human Behavior proved that spending time looking at videos and pictures of cats while you’re at work is actually good for productivity. So yes, those moments you spend staring at cat memes are actually not a waste of time. Take that, boss! So why are funny cat pictures and videos great for productivity? Well, for the main reason that they rid of negative emotions. “Even if they are watching cat videos on YouTube to procrastinate or while they should be working, the emotional pay-off may actually help people take on tough tasks afterward,” Jessica Gall Myrics, who led the study, said. In the said study, almost 7000 participants were asked to describe how they feel before and after watching cat videos. And most of the participants answered that “their mood had improved” after seeing cat photos and videos. “The participants said that they had fewer negative emotions, such as anxiety, annoyance and sadness, after watching cat-related online media than before,” Myrick added.
