Hello, fellow nerds, science geeks, astronaut wannabes!
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration
or NASA has just announced that all their research is now available to the public through a public access portal.
NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman said
, “At NASA, we are celebrating this opportunity to extend access to our extensive portfolio of scientific and technical publications. Through open access and innovation we invite the global community to join us in exploring Earth, air and space.”
The public portal known as PubSpace
will put data and research that NASA has funded within a year of publication and this includes papers and journals which are peer-reviewed.
The agency’s focus now is to make NASA’s data more accessible through “one-stop shopping” to further help the nation’s scientific knowledge and future properity.
“Making our research data easier to access will greatly magnify the impact of our research. As scientists and engineers, we work by building upon a foundation laid by others,” said NASA Chief Scientist Ellen Stofan.
In addition to the delight of more geeks, the European Union also said
that they hope to make their scientific research accessible to the public as well by 2020.
